Role Summary

The main purpose for the role is to organize, direct and execute all the marine aspects related to location moves and positioning of jack-up drilling rigs.  The Rig Mover reports to the Marine Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares towing plans, rig move and anchor handling / mooring procedures taking into consideration the recommendations as set in the location approvals, leg penetration analysis, site specific assessments, for the intended location.
  • Undertakes rig moves in the capacity of Rig Mover / Tow Master, oversees and coordinates all aspects of the rig move operation, instructs / directs the towing vessels as required during the tow and positioning of the rig, responsible for a safe and efficient execution of the rig move.
  • Inspects towing vessels nominated for the rig move on suitability, issues reports accordingly.
  • Reviews location approvals, leg penetration analysis, site specific assessments prior to the Rig Move and liaises with the appointed marine warranty company.
  • Audits the MODU’s statutory certification and other flag state / class / local documents, navigating charts and publications which are required to be on board.
  • Reviews stability calculations to ensure compliance with IMO stability requirements / criteria as laid down in the Marine Operations Manual.
  • Undertakes audits and inspection as directed by the Marine Manager
  • Produces rig move reports, highlighting any deficiencies, recommendations and lessons learnt.
  • Promotes Company standards.
  • Investigates (marine) incidents / accidents as required.
  • Advises and assists the rig crew with jacking operations, watertight integrity checks, sea fastening, pre-loading operations etc.
  • Assists with marine related matters / equipment for new build rigs
  • Inspects newly acquired assets on statutory compliance, general condition, seaworthiness etc.
  • Any other projects as deemed necessary by the company’s management and as directed by the Marine Manager.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience on offshore drilling industry with at least 3 years as OIM, Barge Master, and / or Rig Mover.
  • A Certificate of Competency STCW II/2 as amended (2010) preferred
  • OIM Certificate – (Vanuatu – Liberia or Panama) is required
  • Rig Mover Certification issued by a reputable Marine Warranty Company for F&G 2000, Baker Marine Europe Class, KFELS Super A, KFELS Super B, BMC 400
  • Preferably a degree in maritime transportation, marine engineering or equivalent
  • Should have completed 40 “hands on rig moves” as Rig Mover, including platform to platform or to ports.
  • Valid BOSIET and UKOG medical or equivalent medical.
  • Experienced in developing procedures and report writing for senior management.
  • Excellent social and communication skills, fluent in English both oral and written.
  • A good understanding of leg penetration analysis, bathymetry and side scan sonar seabed surveys, location approvals and site-specific assessments.
  • Preferably have completed a course in offshore Major Emergency Management.
